The Display Format and the Edit Mask both affect the appearance of a User Field, but they have distinctly different purposes.
•The Display Format specifies how the value entered in a User Field should be formatted for display purposes when the field is not focused (i.e. when you have clicked or tabbed out of the field).
•The Edit Mask is used to restrict what data can be entered into the User Field when it is in edit mode (i.e. when you are typing or selecting a value in the field). This is useful for guiding users through data entry, and ensuring that values are entered correctly.
For some types of User Fields - e.g. Date, Time and Date/Time - you can define both the Display Format and Edit Mask, which is useful if you want data to be entered in one format, but displayed in a different format.
