A KPI (Key Performance Indicator) is a measurable value that an organization tracks in order to measure progress towards a specific goal.

One commonly tracked KPI is total dollar amount of sales in a given range of time compared to the same range of time in the past.

For example...

oSales Comparison by Month:  Compare the total amount of sales for the current month to the total sales during the previous month.

oSales Comparison by Year:  Compare the total amount of sales for the current year to the total sales during the previous year.

You could then break down those Monthly and Yearly Sales comparisons by other criteria.

For example...

oMonthly or Yearly Sales per Representative: Compare the current month/year's sales to the previous month/year's sales for each Sales Representative.

oMonthly or Yearly Sales by Financial Subgroup Type:  Compare the current month/year's sales to the previous month/year's sales for each type of resource: beverages, catering, staffing, setup, package, miscellaneous, attendee registration, venue location, etc.

The KPIs you track depends on your organization’s processes and objectives. We will demonstrate some general examples of KPI tracking, but remember that the specific use for your company may vary.

When you define the KPI you want to track, you indicate how often you want a particular value measured.  Those measurements will then be used to create a sparkline, which visually demonstrates the trend occurring over the given time period.
